Something I've wanted to do since I was a kid, but never had the time. Living here in Seattle, I no longer could partake in my favourite hobbies of gliding, trying to break into the local music scene is impossible, and going out tearing up the roads on the motorcycles can only be done for a few short months of the year. I needed to get out and do something! So, with all the time that one gets when working for oneself, I went in search of martial arts training.

I have several friends here that practice various forms, some are quite advanced (2nd and 3rd dans in their respective arts). Back in Sydney, I had a number of friends that were into Hapkido. Doing a lot of research, I decided that was the way I wanted to go, but finding any place doing Hapkido was close to impossible here, let alone a place I liked! Finally managed to find the Enso Center and in particular the Redmond school. And thus my journey in Martial Arts began.

After about a year of doing purely Hapkido, my interests and desire to learn more spread. Enso Center also offered training in Tae Kwon Do, Aikido and Tai Chi. So I signed up for all of them. Now, I do between 3 and 5 hours of martial arts 5-6 days a week in all the offered styles. I have found this very enlightening in learning the differences between all the arts, in both stylistic and philosophy.

Our school recently made it into the Tae Kwon Do Times along with the article on Grand Master Myung (Sept 2004 and June 2005). If you look closely at the group photo of participants at his seminars, you'll see there's a tall blue-haired guy in the middle. That's me :)

Hapkido

Attendees of the April 2005 seminar with GM Myung on the Saturday. This was the open day for all comers and held at the local community center so that we could have enough mat space. This photo is also in TKD Times June 2005.
Attendees of the April 2005 seminar with GM Myung on the Sunday. Held at our center, this day was devoted to the advanced students - brown belt and above.
Myself with Grandmaster Myung on the Sunday of the April 2005 seminar.
G.M. Myung demonstrating a technique on me during the April 2005 seminar. From memory, it was an outward wrist twist (kotegaeshi for the Aikido crowd).
Our center does a lot of demos and training with the not so agile practitioners. In fact, that's one of the more interesting parts of learning there. Here I am at a session with a mentally handicapped guy during one such session for the disabled. From memory this was teaching them a grab release technique.

Aikido

March 2005 Aikido seminar with Senshiro Endo, Shihan. An 8th Dan connected with Aikikai Humbo Dojo. The seminar was organised by Willapa Bay Aikido and hosted in Seattle by Puget Sound Aikido. There's also collection of more photos.
