During late June 2005 we moved to a new temporary center while we are building the big final center. It all happened rather suddenly. One evening while lining up for training we got a call from Jason (our chief instructor) asking if people could come and help build the place. They'd just got the key after the purchase and wanted to run one of their annual kids summer camps there the next week. HELP!

We finished class and then raced over to the new place. For the next week, about half a dozen of us worked every afternoon and evening to covert the old woodworking shop into a martial arts training center. A typical day started at about 4pm and we'd work straight through until 2-3 am. Naturally we didn't have much time to sit and take photos. There's a few of me helping out building it (though it mostly looks like I'm playing supervisor here!)

Building the changing rooms wall. The white shack with the brown door is the toilet and the two big doors on the far left go into the storage area. The kids tent and toys belong to Jason's kids, who wanted to have a "sleep out" at the center before it all started.

Pouring the concrete slab as a ramp into the building. We have disabled students that require wheelchair access, and this makes it easy for them to get in. Yes, that's my bike in the background.

More concreting. Maybe my name should be Conn?

Up in the sky! Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it's me trying to work out how on earth to fit 12 sets of fluoro lights onto 12' high the ceiling. All the ligthing you've seen so far indoors was from a couple of portable floodlights. It was much brighter after fitting them! (Oh, and a couple of months later, managing to rip one off the ceiling while practicing a double chain whip form. DOH!).

Rock on dude! The lights should go here.

At the location of the permanent center, we spent a day and a half assembling this big wooden play center for the kids to play on. We also did a number of other projects on this weekend - a shed, heap of field clearing and more.

Myself and Jason fitting the roof to the playcenter. It was cold and wet this day, hence the outdoor gear being on. In the foreground, others were trying to work out how to build the climbing wall that will eventually be on the right front side (you can see the diagonals for it already fitted).

The crowd that had participated: Ryan, his dad, Jason, Aria (Jason's daughter), Galina, Tim, and myself hiding in the back. It's dark.
