VRML Development

Life's interesting. On Feb 5th, I handed in my VRML ticket. Over the last six months, doubts about VRML's governing body's intentions, my dreams and a number of other factors combined together. I've effectively resigned from all the VRML work that I am currently doing. All of the working groups, the spec efforts and general helping of people. All gone. That means, even though I haven't finished constructing my homepage, things are out of date already. Please keep this in mind as you cruise through these pages.

External Authoring Interface

The External Authoring Interface (EAI) is a set of APIs as well as specifications for controlling how an application will deal with a VRML scene from the outside. It is quite a complex and tricky thing to do, when you consider that everything inside the VRML world may be controlled by a number of separate applications individually and they don't know about each other. And to top that all off, there is the scripting inside the world to deal with as well.

Anyway, I wrote a draft ISO standard for submission to ISO as part of the VRML standard. Unfortunately this has hit the rocks due to lack of support and the general VRMLC/Web3DC conspicuously imploding earlier this year.
